9 Tips for Affiliate Marketers

I spend a few hours each week helping out a large affiliate network’s help desk. I enjoy it and learn a great deal about the people I target in my own business – Beginning Internet Marketers.

The majority of those I help there are completely clueless about how to succeed with affiliate marketing…much less Internet marketing in general. Most beginners fall for the dream of a bank full of cash with a few hours a week spent “submitting ads”.

I really feel sorry for them. Most of them are probably very intelligent and very capable of enjoying online success…if they only knew where to direct their efforts. Instead, they simply waste their time with methods that don’t work, then they become frustrated and just quit; they assume they are simply not cut out for Internet marketing.

Here’s a short list I created of things you MUST be doing and those you should NOT be wasting your time on in order to succeed with affiliate marketing:

• “Submitting” ads to here, there, and yonder DOES NOT WORK!

• Almost all successful affiliate marketers use their own website to promote their products. DO NOT think you can reinvent the wheel and succeed without one!

• ONLY promote items you KNOW are quality products from a vendor you trust. Most beginners could care less if the product and vendor are a little “shady”. Remember, what goes around comes around!

• Most beginners opt for the “shotgun” approach and try promoting a dozen or more different programs. A beginner should stay tightly focused and learn how to succeed with one, maybe two products at a time.

• One of the most popular methods successful affiliate marketers use is to provide an honest (and believable) review of the product on their website. They of course understand search engine optimization (SEO) and know how to achieve great search engine rankings in order to get plenty of free traffic.

• Affiliate marketing success is something that builds over time. The process requires many seeds be planted and allowed to grow. Those looking for quick bucks should go play the lottery!

If you now realize your affiliate marketing efforts have been misguided, don’t despair! The great thing about Internet marketing is how quickly one can change directions.

• Find a niche you enjoy and is not too competitive. Many beginners make the mistake of selecting products in the highly competitive area of Internet marketing.

• Learn web design AND how to use SEO to drive plenty of search engine traffic!

• Build a great site with original and optimized content with which you can promote your affiliate products!
