Internet Marketers’ Failure Rate

Posted on August 7th, 2008 in Getting Started by Steve

An affiliate contacted me wondering what my customers’ success rate was. I told him I did not have those percentages (although I am going to implement a customer follow up system soon).  However, I told him that no matter how great the material is, the “failure rate” is quite high.

Here’s why:

You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink.

The overall failure rate for beginning Internet marketers is around 99%.
If they get in with a good mentor, that number goes down significantly…but would still be considered high.

The number one factor for failure is motivation and lack of follow through. I can tell and show a person exactly what has to be done. I can give example after example of exactly how I make money with Adsense and how I get niche pages ranking on the first page of Google. There are no secrets or tricks to it. Anyone can be making $1000 a month in a year’s time if they  practiced relentless focused action that whole time and learned the art of keyword research well. …plus all the other little pieces of course.

Look at it like this: If you give me a person who is very self driven and willing to work hard, he will be making $1000 a month in a year. I know that without a doubt. So there I guess you could say my success rate is 100% if you send me the right people. On the other hand…I can’t help a person make a dime who is not driven and willing to work hard.

The only problem is that it takes work…a LOT Of focused action (work)…sometimes for many months before they see any return whatsoever. Most people just do not have the internal drive to do that.

So it is not a matter of how great the material is…yes, that part is very important…but what matters most is if the material is the hands of one of the special people who are self motivated enough to succeed with it. And honestly, those people are few.

I never know who they are. I always try to treat each customer who I end up talking or writing to as if they are; I always hope they are. But most never even have the “stick with it” attitude long enough to get much of a website even.

I used to feel bad about this. But I now realize I am dealing with humans. I can lead them and show them the way, but 90% of what dictates their success is inside of them and not controlled by me.

Google Custom Search Engine for AdSense Profits

Posted on August 4th, 2008 in Sensible AdSense by Steve

If you have not tried Google’s Custom Search Engine for your AdSense sites, you might consider it. Google CSE offers a way to create a custom search engine which also serves your AdSense ads.

For example, you could create a niche site about “eye problems”. You would create and optimize the site just like always in order to drive traffic to it. On the home page you create a Google search box using Google CSE. For the search you can populate the possible results with ONLY the domains you choose. This way you can create a powerful search engine which produces very targeted results. In this way the searchers might continue doing searches and will be more likely to click your ads.

Also, for this site, you could add a heading above the search box such as this:
“Search for an Eye Doctor in Your City”. You might also add an example search like this: “eye doctors in Los Angeles”

This search will result in VERY targeted AdSense ads. Many of them will contain the terms “Los Angeles eye doctor”

These ads will have very good CTR’s! Talk about TARGETED!

You can get a free CSE account at http://www.google.com/cse

There are 1000s of possible niches which would work well for a CSE. Any niches where searcher may search by city, state, model number, etc. are great candidates

Should You Buy a Guru’s Product?

Posted on August 1st, 2008 in Getting Started by Steve

There are many Internet marketers who are far more successful (so far) than I am right now. They offer many great products.

My main focus is on beginners; those who have yet to make a steady payday online. They often ask me about so and so’s new product. They want to know what I think.

Here is what I tell them:

Those are really great products some of the gurus have. However, equate Internet success with flying yourself overseas.

A 747 would be a great tool to achieve that dream. However, a 747 is useless in the hands of a beginner who has not even finished ground school!

See my point?

Many of the Guru’s products are really great, but most beginners are no where near the level where they can really take advantage of the product’s full potential.
