The 2 SEO Plugins I Use For WordPress
Posted by: | CommentsIf you create a WordPress site and write all the content, you better go the extra mile and make sure everything is search engine friendly! Otherwise, you are just wasting your time.

I’ve always used the “SEO All In One” plugin. If you use WordPress, you SHOULD already be using that one!
The “All In One” is great for title tags and canonical issues, but it doesn’t help at all with content optimization. SEOPressor is not free like the All in One, but it is well worth the small cost.
The second SEO plugin I use helps with the posts’ content. It analyzes my posts and shows me right there on the WordPress edit screen what needs optimized better.
THIS is one cool SEO tool!

cPanel Hosting Setup – eMail, WordPress, Add-on Domains, etc.
Posted by: | CommentsGoDaddy is OK for buying domains, but when it comes to WordPress, they severely drop the ball. For one thing, there hosting admin area is slow as molasses. Secondly, they do not use the industry standard, cPanel, for hosting administration. GoDaddy has been around a long time, but I bet they regret not going with cPanel early on.
However, and most importantly, their hosting does not support all the WordPress plugins I use. And that is a deal breaker for me since all my sites now are WordPress. I have no choice but to find a host that supports WordPress 100%.
Click here to read more about the host I suggest.
Below are 3 cPanel videos which will help you configure any hosting account which uses cPanel administration:
Add a Contact Form To Your Site
Posted by: | CommentsHere’s another reason to use WordPress for building your website. It is very easy to install and configure a contact form in your WordPress web site. Unlike many of the contact forms for basic HTML sites, your email address does not show up in the code of the site (no viewable to spammers that way). Here’s a short video showing you the one I use and how easy it is to install:
You Have a Pretty Website…So What?
Posted by: | CommentsWhat good is a site if no one sees it? Unless you learn how to build a website that attracts quality traffic…you might as well skip Internet Marketing. There is no “build it and they will come” process going on here. Building a website that actually gets visitors is no simple task on today’s Internet. Your pages, among 10 or so BILLION (at least) other pages, can quite easily get lost in the crowd.
My focus with Weber Internet Marketing is to help people overcome the traffic obstacle. Once your site gets any significant traffic, it is then EASY to make money. There are many options for monetizing a site that gets significant traffic.
How much income that traffic generates depends on:
- How targeted the traffic is.
- How quickly visitors hit the “back button” upon arriving at your site.
- How great your offer is and how well you present it.
- Also, are you building a list with that traffic or just relying on one-time visitors?
There are no tricks or “secret” formulas for getting traffic. Of course you can always PAY for traffic with Google AdWords or other PayPerClick service, but why not get all the FREE traffic you can before paying for it? Attracting free traffic to your website simply involves these steps:
- Settle on a small niche you are interested in and can compete in.
- Learn how to create a simple, search engine friendly website.
- Study SEO and apply it to your content.
- Create a LOT of content for your site, article directories, etc.
- Do whatever else it takes to boost traffic…article marketing, video marketing, social media, etc.
- Have patience. Good results will take months of dedicated and well focused effort.
It really is just that simple. If you are new and still “learning the ropes”, begin with my 12 steps at the top of this page. Learn the basic skills and then apply Relentless Focused Action!
Affiliate & AdSense Marketing: Just the Basics Please
Posted by: | CommentsThe vast majority of new online marketers begin with affiliate marketing and/or Google AdSense marketing.
Affiliate marketing is an attractive option for earning income online. The benefits include:
- You don’t need your own product to sell; you simply promote others’ products and get a commission for those sales.
- You have no customer service issues
- You don’t need a shopping cart or merchant account for accepting credit cards.
There are a few affiliate marketing methods that work quite well. There are MANY methods that don’t work at all…such as:
- All the “data entry”, “rebate processor”, “email blasting”, etc. type products are pure scams. Save your money and don’t waste time with these.
- In fact, ANYTHING that promises “easy money” is a scam. Don’t fall for those flashy, pie-in-the-sky promises; there are NO quick or easy ways to succeed with affiliate marketing.
- Affiliate marketing with Google AdWords was relatively easy in the past. However, Google has changed the rules. Now days, it requires plenty of experience with pay-per-click just to break even. If you wish to try Adwords to promote an affiliate product, do not set your budget for more money than you are willing to lose; you will lose money for quite some time as you learn.
- Forget “posting” to free classified sites…another waste of time.
- Find a small niche.
Stay out of big areas. Anything related to “how to make money”, “weigh loss”, “Internet marketing”, “dating”, etc. are simply too big for all but the most experienced marketers. Remember, it’s always better to have a small piece of a small pie than it is to get ZERO from too big of one. Many beginners believe that since are area has SO MANY buyers, that surely they can get a few of them. It simply does not work that way. Going into too big of an area is probably the single biggest mistake I see beginners making.
- Trying ANY method WITHOUT your own domain and your own hosting account is a prescription for failure 99% of the time. Sure, there are methods that work without having a “real” site, but the amount of work required to make those methods work is enormous; it is MUCH easier with your own sites.
Following are the tried and proven affiliate marketing methods that can result in success:
- Find a nice quiet niche with which your current skill level allows you to compete in. The less experience you have, the smaller the niche must be.
- Building a search engine friendly website which generates plenty of free and targeted search engine traffic is the most effective method.
- Article marketing is a method that will work without having a website. Article marketers simply redirect their bio URL to an affiliate product. However, don’t expect much success with article marketing unless you are a fairly good writer willing to write a LOT of articles on a continuing basis; just writing a few articles now and then won’t cut it. Video marketing works quite well also. But again, massive action is required.
- Social media can work too. Unfortunately, the vast majority of people use twitter and Facebook all wrong when it comes to promoting affiliate products. It simply can’t be done in a “spammy” way. Correct methods involve investing much time in building a loyal following that appreciate and get value from the content produced.
Affiliate marketing is a numbers game. If you can get targeted traffic to your site AND get them to click your affiliate links, you will make money. It’s just that simple.
How much money you make depends on how targeted your traffic is, how well your site converts (in getting people to click your affiliate links), and how well the affiliate product page converts visitors to sales.
Targeted traffic is the first step. For example, if you promote a “how to potty train a puppy” product, your target is someone who HAS A PUPPY. Targeting “dog lovers” in general won’t do. The site’s visitors must already be, at least somewhat, interested in or needing what you promote. The more targeted your traffic is, the better your site will convert.
Next is how well your site converts to clicks. Of course the traffic must be targeted in the first place. But what happens when that traffic arrives? The web page they land on has about 3 seconds (yes, 3 SECONDS) to convince them to remain on the page or they will click the back button. Your page must capture their interest with great headlines, interesting pictures or videos, or all three. Your page must offer no hint of what you are actually trying to do (get people to click a link so you can make money). Pulling this off requires offering great content. In most cases a visitor will NOT click a link until they have been on the page for a while. If your page does not appear to offer enough reasons to stay, the visitor will almost always click the back button before clicking a link on the page.
Lastly, the product you promote must be of great quality and that product sales page must convert. It does no good for you to promote a low quality product and/or a product with a poor sales page. Additionally, if the product is not top quality, you will experience a problem with refunds. If someone buys the product and then requests a refund, your commission is take away!
For someone just beginning an affiliate marketing business, the easiest steps to success are:
- Learn how to choose a niche that you are able to compete in (very important) and one that has great affiliate products associated with it.
- Learn SEO. You simply have to know how to take advantage of free search engine traffic.
- Build a simple, search engine friendly website. Today, WordPress is the only way to go…in my opinion. Also, I highly suggest you don’t go the “cheap route” with a free hosted WordPress website. In the long run, you will greatly benefit with your own domain on your own host. I don’t know of ANY successful affiliate marketers who use the “free sites” instead of having their own domains and hosts.
- Create great content for the site. Make your site VALUABLE! The more value you offer your visitors, the more money you will make. If your site offers no added value for visitors, you will have very little success…if any.
- Be sure you ONLY promote products YOU believe in. Focus on ONLY one, maybe two, for each niche site. Having too many products simply looks “spammy” to visitors. The product you choose must convert visitors to sales! If you have a choice, select well established products which have a proven track record of converting well.
Affiliate Networks
Most beginners register with ClickBank and/or Commission Junction in the beginning. I have also had great success working with vendors who have their own, in-house affiliate programs.
Basically, pick a niche you are interested in, make sure you can compete in the niche at the level you wish, and then research all the possible affiliate product options. Look at the competition and see what they are promoting. There is no harm in doing that. In fact, I suggest not trying to reinvent the wheel; find what is working out there and simply do it a little better.
Google AdSense
Success with Google AdSense requires many of the same techniques used for affiliate marketing. AdSense success is all about getting plenty of targeted traffic. The amount of success you have with AdSense depends on:
- How much and how targeted your traffic is.
- The topic of your site.
- How good of job your site does in keeping visitors on the site instead of clicking the back button.
Again, AdSense is a numbers game. A good click through rate is anywhere from 2% to 5%. Of course higher rates are possible, but 2 to 5 is most likely. If your click rate is 3%, that means that for every 100 visitors to your site, 3 will click one of your AdSense ads.
The value of each click varies greatly. Sure, ads for insurance and other high dollar purchases can have click values of well over $1 each. But how hard would it be to get traffic with all the competition? Remember, the topic of the ads is chosen by Google and according to the topic of your site. I have to just shake my head when I hear beginners asking what the best paying AdSense keywords are. All things being equal, it is MUCH easier to make $1000 a month in several very tiny niches combined than it is with marketing in an area with too much competition.
Some of my students have done well focused on just one website. Most however, have multiple, small niche websites. There are pros and cons for both. It has more to do with what your personality type is. There is no “best” way.
For both AdSense and affiliate marketing, choose niches that also include things people buy. If your niche is ONLY about information, it’s VERY difficult to do well. For example, what if your passion was the study of early cavemen? You could create a GREAT, content rich info site, but what kind of ads would show up on that site? I’m sure there are many people interested in that topic, but what could you offer to sell them? I can tell you that the clicks for AdSense ads for topics like that are very low priced. On the other hand, what if your passion was making stained glass art? People with that hobby buy a LOT of stuff! Your chances for success with that type of site are far greater. Just use common sense when choosing a niche.
Success with either affiliate marketing or AdSense marketing basically boils down to how well you have developed basic Internet marketing skills and how willing your are to take a LOT of action with those skills. Nothing is hard about any of it. Once you learn the required skills, just get to work and stay focused; it is not possible to fail if you do that.
Register With Google Webmaster Tools
Posted by: | CommentsI hope everyone reading this has registered with Google Webmaster Tools already. One of the most important benefits of registering with Webmaster Tools is the connection it provides between your site’s sitemap and Google. This allows Google a clear view of all your site’s pages.
Besides sitemap submissions, there are other registration benefits. The account also offers details on your internal linking structure. I really like this! Google shows me how well I am doing with my intra-linking. If I see a page that has one or even no internal links pointing to it, I will add some links from other relevant pages to that page (using keyword rich anchor text of course). They also show details for off-site backlinks as well.
In the diagnostics area Google will list any problems they see with the site such as HTML issues, broken links, and possible malware warnings. I have seen instances where sites were hacked and the diagnostics area of webmaster tools was a big help in understanding what and where the problem was.
Besides, Google, Yahoo and Bing both have their version of “webmaster tools” which you should also register your sites with. They are not as robust as Googles, but still should be used nonetheless. After all, Yahoo and Bing account for over 25% of the search traffic available to your sites; you should not neglect them!
Since these tools provide great benefit to your sites AND are free, it just makes sense to take a few minutes to register and connect your sites with them.

It’s NOT the “Idea”…It’s the Plan!
Posted by: | CommentsI’ve talked with a LOT of people who want to or are in the process of building an online business. Without a doubt, their most common question relates to niches and keywords.
Those who don’t have a business are often searching for that ONE niche to hit a homerun with. That type of thinking is a mistake. Honestly, if you are in that group right now, there are dozens and dozens, if not hundreds and even thousands of niches that could lead to massive success.
You see, it’s really not the idea or niche that creates the success. It is the PLAN and the type and amount of ACTION one takes.
There are literally thousands of ”ideas” that will work. Take for examples:
Spear fishing
Storage buildings
Rock polishing
Mountain biking
Dog training
Leather work
Horseback riding
Gardening
Self help
Making picture frames
Heck, almost ANYTHING in ANY AREA can make you a fortune considering the reach of the Internet! Sure, some big areas you must sub-niche, but the opportunities are there!
Again, it is NOT the “perfect” idea you are looking for. All you need is a basic idea that a number of other people enjoy, need help with, or are interested in. Then, and MOST importantly, you need a smart plan to make the idea work.
I don’t care who you are or what your interests are. 9 times out of 10, you and I could brainstorm an “idea” very quickly and come up with a plan of action to make that idea successful. THEN it’s totally up to you to supply the action required.
Too much time is wasted on “finding the right niche”. My gosh, a guy in the 70’s made MILLIONS from selling “pet rocks”. I rest my case that it’s NOT the “idea” but the plan that’s important.
Ok, you get the idea. Almost anything, any idea, any niche can work…but where do you go from there?
Here’s what I do:
I take an idea and run it through my Market Samurai software. It helps me drill down and find every possible sub-niche and keyword that I might be able to work with. Then I ask the all-important question, “If I build a site about this and get traffic, how will I make money with that traffic?” Many folks never answer that question before they begin.
If all the pieces seem to be there, I’ll go back to Market Samurai and identify the keyword I want for my home page. I don’t want a super easy keyword, nor do I want one too difficult to rank for either. Once I get my home page keyword and about 20 other of the top keywords identified, I get busy writing the content (or have someone write it) and building the optimized site. I’ll do all the necessary on-page and off-page SEO required in order to get the ball rolling with it.
All the SEO steps are parts of other posts, but I hope you take from this post how important the PLAN is vs. just coming up with an “idea” or niche.
Also, if you want to try Market Samurai, you can download it here for free and use it for a week. (The trial is fully functional by the way.)
Amazon S3 For File and Video Hosting
Posted by: | CommentsI’m a HUGE fan of Amazon’s S3 hosting service. If you don’t know about it, it’s not for hosting websites. It’s not a host like Godaddy or HostGator. It’s simply a very large group of very fast servers for file hosting. Specifically, I use it for audio and video hosting.
Hands down, Amazon S3 is one of the fastest and most reliable host for serving videos. I like HostGator for hosting, but their shared hosting doesn’t come close to Amazon S3 for serving video.
Other people use it for backing up their hard drives or other types of mass storage needs.
Best of all Amazon S3 is DIRT CHEAP!
The only downside to it is that it’s not that easy to get setup. You can’t use standard FTP programs for example. Instead, there are third party applications which interface with it.
I use Cloudberry for uploading general files. Firefox has an addon for uploading to Amazon, but I like Cloudberry best.
For uploading videos and creating their players at the same time, I use Easy Video Pro (it uploads automatically to my Amazon S3 account, creates the players automatically, and creates the code for the player which I can simply paste into my WordPress blog).
If you are interested in using Amazon S3, here’s a video which will help you get going:
Article Marketing Basics
Posted by: | CommentsThe vast majority of Internet marketers use or have used article marketing to some extent. It is free and a very effective marketing tool…especially for new sites. Simply put, article marketing involves writing original articles about your niche (optimized with a specific keyword of course) and submitting them to article directories. Along with the article the writer can include a bio and a link back to his or her website.
The purpose of article writing is two fold. First, there is a backlink created for the author’s website. Backlinks are a very important indicator for Google as to the relevance of your site. Secondly, it is quite possible that an article itself will be indexed well by the search engines. Ranking well for a chosen keyword results in additional (and free) search engine traffic.
Every marketer should be using article marketing as one of their off-page SEO tactics. New sites benefit greatly by getting these early backlinks from quality article directories. Best of all, article submission is FREE!
The VERY LEAST you should be doing right now is writing and submitting quality articles to EzineArticles.com (Remember these must be original articles. Do not submit articles already published on your site or elsewhere!)
But WHY go to all the trouble of writing and optimizing one article and submitting it to just one directory?
Here’s how I do it:
I use Submit Your Article for my submissions. Here’s why:
- I submit it to them and then THEY submit it to ALL the top directories!
- Their software allows me to “spin” the article in a natural way.
- For example, I can write one article and then spin it so it has 5 different titles and the body is spun 5 different ways. Then they submit these variations so duplicate content is not such a problem.
- They allow me to “time” my submissions. When I submit one article they will “trickle” it out for whatever length I choose. I usually pick a 60 day period. This is very NATURAL looking to the search engines.
- Beginners almost ALWAYS think they “Can’t Afford” to use this type of service. In my opinion, their order of thinking is reversed!
