What Can I Sell on the Internet? I have many people tell me they would like to have an online business. But most of them have the same first question: "What could I sell?" In almost every case the answer is right in front of their eyes. More than likely there are plenty of great products which would work for an online business already being used by the would-be web marketing entrepreneur. In fact, our first product was one which we were already purchasing for personal use. We had been using Syn-flex glucosamine for one of our old dog's arthritis, and it worked really well. We had been trying to think of a product to start an Internet business with, and one day it dawned on us that we should think about selling Syn-flex on the web. And now, just a few years later, that idea has turned into a thriving Internet business with about a dozen products now!
So my advice to you is to look at the products you use and the products your friends and family use. I would bet my next day's sales that there is a product or idea in that list of products which you can start a business with! It is always best to pick a product you have good experience with. For example, we knew quite a lot about dog arthritis because of our old dog. Therefore, I was able to write a lot of great content for the web site easily. It is important to have plenty of relevant content on the site about the product you sell. Search engines LOVE plenty of themed content! SEO techniques can bring profitable traffic to niche websites...and it costs nothing! (A Side Note: Be sure to read what NOT to do with regard to online scams and other beginning Internet marketer's mistakes.) It is also important to have a thorough knowledge of your products in order to answer customers' questions. Simply put, the more you know about your product, the more likely you are to be successful. I know little about musical instruments, so it would be difficult for me to sell them effectively. Should you still be at a loss for what to sell, check out eBay. Spend some time in eBay's category directory. Find things that are selling well (look at "completed listings" for a given area...you must have an eBay account to see completed listings). There are thousands of items being sold on eBay which could be sold successfully on the Internet. Always look for niche areas. Although weight-loss products are extremely popular on eBay and the Internet, there is a LOT of competition with these products. Niche areas are the best and easiest to market If eBay does not result in ideas for you, do some basic brainstorming. For example, a great brainstorming tool is a dictionary. With a friend or your spouse, open the dictionary to a random page and place your finger on a random word. If it is not a noun, do it again. When your finger lands on a noun, describe it in as many ways as possible. And while doing so, link your descriptions to possible ways to market the item. You will be amazed at how well this exercise works! If a product idea has still not come to you, it may not be time for you yet. If this is the case, relax. Don't try to force it. If you really want to start a web business, visualize having a successful one. Believe it will happen! I promise the right idea will come along if you keep a positive attitude. By the way, if you do sell items online and need a shopping cart, I suggest always starting out with a simply PayPal Shoppinng Cart which is easy to setup and free to use. Knowledge Really is the Key to Success!
