Basic Website Marketing

Although my website, www.cactuscanyon.com, offers nutritional supplements for sale, my real job is not selling items on the web. My real work is Internet marketing. Without effective marketing, Cactus Canyon would already be one of the 99 out of 100 sites which fail.

  • For success the home page and/or other pages in the site MUST show up well in the search engines.

  • A site's success depends upon most of its traffic coming from targeted searches in Google, Yahoo and MSN.

  • Understanding SEO (Search Engine Optimization) will be the key to your success.

  • One can get traffic by paying for it (pay-per-click), but no online business can survive only on that traffic.

  • Do not begin work on your site, or have anyone else start on it, until you have an understanding of the importance of SEO.

  • Get as many one way links as possible. High PR directories are some of the best and easiest places to get these kinds of links initially. But do not fall for link building or other forms of website traffic building scams.

  • Be sure to put your site's URL on your business property (if you have a brick and mortar business), in print advertising, your business cards and invoices, your email signatures, your company vehicles, etc.

  • If you are thinking of using Pay-Per-Click for traffic, do your research first! It is not as easy as you might think!
